Headed back to TBack Ferry. Where is all this water coming from!
Noticed water levels increasing as we got closer to town. Arriving at town, it’s flooded. I wanted to stay at the water’s edge, but reluctantly hopped on a small boat with the others to help save some villagers. What actual help I could offer, dunno, can’t swim so good.
Something resembling dark tree trunk smashed into the cathedral. It wasn’t. Was an Black Maga, Massive! I remembered the stories about a Black Maga, a creature from the water plane, decimating whole armies. The Maga immediately turned on the boat and hit Pile with some nasty con dmg or something. I jumped off the boat, swim or not to get away. Luckily the beast took to Shimmer Lake without causing more carnage.
We figured that Skull Dam to the north could be damaged, that’s the only source of beasts like a Black Maga. Turned around, headed north, and indeed the top lip of the dam was breached. Entered. Quickly killed Gorger and Chaw, a ettin guarding the entrance. Signs and fetishes by trolls marked the inside. Continued in. Along the top of the dam were five ogres causing serious structural damage. They died easily. Realized the lake needed to be lowered for repairs on the dam.
Bypassed large immovable doors to get inside. Inside flora and fauna in the form of four jungle trolls went down pretty easy…although, they needed to be torched to stay dead. Navigated the rooms and found the control room. After fiddling with the levers to no avail, found a power room with two dimensional locks and siphon life devices that apparently power the flow gates. A construct scorpion guarded the room. Locked it in with stone shape while it got picked apart. Karzoug, an ancient pit lord was trapped and nearing death begged for release. We knew better. I summoned a giant spider and commanded it to skitter over to the other vacant rune on the floor. Both the spider and pit lord were consumed in a painless instant. The place hummed and we flipped the levers in the back at the control room. Water flowed.
The last room had a strange small pool. Below the surface lurked a water troll with a unique trident. Pile dragged the beast out, and it got worked over. Went back to TBack Ferry to requisition repairs on the breach, tho it will take some time for the waters of Stroval Deep to recede.
Decided to explore the Shimmer Glens for signs of Black Arrow leader or the rumored Myriana. After a few hours of random wandering, we were approached by pixie who begged for help. Her mistress was so distraught the forest around her was dying. Lured by the pixies cuteness and sincerity we accepted and followed, decided not to examine a strange shipwreck oozing with magic as the situation seemed urgent. Presented to Myriana, now a nymph/wraith, consumed with rage of what happened to her and her lover Lamataar. We were basically given an ultimatum of finding a piece of “him” to give her resolve or be hunted down to have the full extent of her wrath excised upon us. I ran the instant I saw the tortured being to where the pixie was safely hiding; curses did not hit me. Pixie offered magic dusts as rewards for help. Sadly, on the way out the shipwreck had vanished.
Hook Mountain is next stop. Myriana said the ogres from there did this to her and took “him”. Resupplied at Bitter Hollow; lots of sweet gnome gear there. I guess surpluses from Sanos Forest, the gnomelands from the west. Eventually found the ogre hideout and walked right in. Some enormous desiccated giant stood tall with a scihedron around its neck. Spooky! We rapidly swarmed four ogres but one managed to yell a warning; now we were swarmed by 11 more or so. Some of them died easy. Some were much tougher; seasoned fighters I’m guessing. Pile and Jet got a little roughed up. That fight used up the heal wand patching em up. Moved on. Three tall grizzly witch women were gathered at a cauldron brewing something unappetizing. Skipped them to explore more of the cavern. Lucrecia again! Along with Lamataar to the north wing. Two stone giants, one a Barl Breakbones on a massive throne on the south wing. Pre-buffed everyone and sent in an enlarged scorpion with the intent of taking initial damage from Lucrecia or Lamataar now a wraith. Silvr quickly put up a lattice stone wall to divide the room to buy us time. Pile took incredible damage; I healed him best I could. Jet got hit with nasty weakening effect that would eventually kill him. Lucrecia asked for help from the trolls who didn’t react immediately. Scorpion basically useless and I tried to convince trolls for a truce. Shalelu got in a pickle as Lucrecia closed in. Silvr summoned a stone barrier and Jack moved to intervene. Lucrecia took big damage and teleported away again just as Lamataar died a second time. My attempts to reason with the giants failed. Forced to fight them. Useless scorpion actually got killing blow on lesser giant. King giant took to the air but eventually died too.
Now with the immediate threats eliminated. A poisonous gas blocked the hallway to the exits. Panicked and looking for a way out, we saw vents above the throne room—a smarter access point but anyways. Waited till the gas cloud dissipated. Mephit reported no threats in the cave system. Found a note which mentioned dragons and Sandpoint. We sauntered out the front; Pile had his collection of heads and Lamataar’s body. Singer cut the chain holding the large scihedron off the huge preserved giant which instantly crumbled to dust. I dropped giant vermin spell for restoration so Jet could live, as help was weeks away. He sheepishly produced a diamond from a hidden pocket to be crushed for his spell componets. Sneaky kid.
Returned to Shimmer Glens to bring Myriana the body, singer got some sort of bardic empowerment as a reward.
Finally arrived at Magnamar. Time to inspect this note and gather information and armaments for a dragon battle!
